When I saw Ali Andreea, a Paris-based makeup artist, upload a video to YouTube titled ‘Absolute Favourite Makeup Product From 18 Brands’ I was immediately obsessed the idea and excited for her to reveal her top picks. So, I wanted to share my list as well – however, I’ve only managed to create a list of 17 brands, but I think it’ll be enough to satisfy your interest!
ARMANI – LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION
The Luminous Silk Foundation by Armani has been my sole go-to foundation since I was a teenager. With a semi-matte finish which becomes more luminous throughout the day, this foundation is both compatible with my sensitive skin and reliable throughout all four seasons. My only gripe is that the price keeps increasing – it’s gone up by around £10 since I bought my first bottle!
BOBBI BROWN – CRUSHED LIQUID LIPSTICK
Unlike traditional liquid lipsticks, the Crushed Liquid Lipsticks by Bobbi Brown are more of a hybrid between a velvet liquid lip and a gloss as they don’t dry down. Without any stickiness whatsoever, these give the lips a smooth and cushioning look, while giving a beautiful amount of pigment. I like to apply a little and tap in out with my finger.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY – AIRBRUSH FLAWLESS FINISH POWDER
When I first tired this powder, I massively underestimated how perfect the formula is for my skin. As I have a patch on my right cheek where I suffered medical damage, my skin feels much finer and has an unusual texture which is often emphasised with makeup if I use uncomplimentary techniques, brushes, and product combinations. The Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder truly gives this area a flawless finish, and, regardless of how cheesy this may sound, I’m so grateful that this product exists. Also, it has coverage too, which makes it even better!
DIOR – DIORSKIN NUDE LUMINIZER
The DiorSkin Nude Luminizer in ‘002 Pink Glow’ was the very first highlighter that I ever bought, and to this day it’s still one of my favourites. With a high-shine and finely-milled formula, the powder glides across the skin and adds radiance to the complexion in a way which looks hydrating. Pink Glow is a very cool-toned pale pink and is the perfect shade for fair skin. I really want to try 001 Nude Glow, which is a favourite amongst many celebrities.
ESTÉE LAUDER – ‘PINKBERRY’ PURE COLOUR ENVY SCULPTING LIPSTICK
While I have many favourite natural-tone lipsticks, Pinkberry by Estee Lauder is definitely near the top of the list. I remember I time when I used to wear it virtually everyday! I have to admit, I’d (unbelievably) forgotten about it until around a fortnight ago, which is why you didn’t see it in My 20 Favourite Everyday Lipsticks blogpost back in May.
With a creamy, hydrating formula, Pinkberry has a mauve undertone, making it a beautiful and flattering colour on fair skin. However, it’s still pink and neutral enough to work on a multitude of different complexions. It’s one of my Mum’s favourite lipsticks.
FENTY BEAUTY – GLOSS BOMB CREAMS
I’ve never come across a gloss formula quite like Fenty’s Gloss Bomb Creams. They’re incredibly easy to apply and are far from the sticky and thick consistency found in many glosses on the market. While they’re not as intensely pigmented as traditional glosses, this isn’t a problem for me at all, especially given how beautiful they make the lips look. The only problem is that the shade range is too small! I can’t wait to see what colours they come out with in the future.
HOURGLASS – AMBIENT STROBE LIGHTING POWDERS
The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are a dream for no-makeup-makeup, where the makeup you are wearing is effective but undetectable. Unlike traditional powder highlighters, the Strobe Lighting Powders are exceptionally fine and silky, and require a brush for application. They give the skin a glow in the most natural way possible.
HUDA BEAUTY – MERCURY RETROGRADE EYESHADOW PALETTE
When it comes to eyeshadow, I love the idea of colourful tones. However, I prefer the idea of incorporating these colours into my neutral, everyday looks, so I don’t create something which is too far from what I believe looks the best on myself. The Mercury Retrograde palette from Huda Beauty contains some of the most unique and beautiful colours and textures that I’ve come across in the beauty industry, and are so complimentary to the everyday tones we love and wear all the time.
KYLIE COSMETICS – SHIMMER EYE GLAZE
Although I realise many people would argue that Kylie Cosmetics isn’t a ‘luxury beauty brand’, the majority of the products that I’ve tried from the company have been nothing short of amazing.
While I’ve only managed to try one Shimmer Eye Glaze – namely ‘More Pie Please, a stunning rose-brown with a silver shimmer reflect – I couldn’t be more obsessed with the formula if I tried. It’s intense, but can be sheered out, and beautifully glamorous. I can’t wait to try more shades. It does have a bit of fallout if you pick up too much product on your finger.
LANCÔME – HYPNOSE DRAMA MASCARA
For me, Lancôme mascaras are the best and most reliable mascaras on the market, with my favourite version being Drama. As a highly volumising formula, it thickens my lashes while effectively lengthening and separating them too. It’s everything I look for in a mascara, and that’s why it’s been my No. 1 for so many years. Plus, it comes in brown too, which is perfect for when I’m after a softer look.
LAURA MERCIER – FLAWLESS FUSION ULTRA-LONGWEAR CONCEALER
The Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer has been my go-to concealer for over a year now. It’s amazing for dry skin and instantly adds luminosity to the skin, without looking oilyor shiny, and this radiance lasts throughout the day. It works really well with the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, and is great for smoothing out the appearance of texture. It layers well, with the coverage building up easily without looking thick or cakey.
MAC – ‘SHOCKING REVELATION’ POWDER KISS LIPSTICK
Everybody must be fed up of me talking about this lipstick, but it’s just too good to not tell every single soul about! It’s a beautiful, vibrant blue red which, while it’s supposed to be a matte, has the slightest of sheens, and is fiercely pigmented too. Comfortable and long-lasting with a liner, I’ll always be in love with Shocking Revelation.
NARS – ‘SLAM’ POWERCHROME LOOSE PIGMENT
NARS is one of my favourite brands, and houses a multitude of my go-to products, which made the decision to pick just one product so difficult. Alas, I went for the Powerchrome Loose Pigment in the shade ‘Slam’, a gorgeous rose-brown with a shimmering, high-shine golden reflect. I love how I can either apply the shadow intensely with my finger, swiping the product across my eyes, or sheerly, through using a fluffy eyeshadow brush to dust the shimmer and create a light and ethereal sparkly sheen. It’s such a flattering colour, which isn’t too light or too dark. It’s a great staple to have in your makeup bag.
NATASHA DENONA – BRONZE EYESHADOW PALETTE
I’ve been incredibly lucky to try three of Natasha Denona’s eyeshadow palettes now, and while each have their own quirks and qualities, the Bronze Palette has to be my favourite. I love how they are so many options so you can create whatever bronze look you desire or is suitable for where you’re going and what time of year it is. With highly pigmented and easy to blend mattes, alongside creamy metallics, this palette is very user friendly and great for both everyday and more glamorous makeup.
PATRICK TA – MONOCHROME MOMENT VELVET BLUSHES
Patrick Ta’s cosmetics company houses some of my all-time favourite products, so, like NARS, I found choosing just one product every difficult. Ultimately, I landed on the Velvet Blushes, which consist of four extremely flattering shades. Their firmly pressed formula makes them sheer, yet buildable, and the inclusion of shea butter gives a gorgeous finish which prevents the powders looking too matte on the skin. I love all four colours, but She’s Seductive, She’s Sincere and She’s Adorable are my favourites.
TOO FACED – BORN THIS WAY TRANSLUCENT SETTING POWDER
I have to admit – I haven’t tried that much from Too Faced because I find the brand to be quite hit or miss. However, their Born This Way Translucent Setting Powder became a staple in my collection a couple of years back. It’s super reliable and work brilliantly all year round whether it’s cold or warm outside. One thing – don’t use too much!
VICTORIA BECKHAM BEAUTY – ’02’ LIP DEFINER
Victoria Beckham Beauty is a fairly new brand to me, but I’ve already found a nugget of gold with their Lip Definer in the much-loved shade 02. For a long time, I’ve been after a warm-toned nude liner which wasn’t too orange or too light or too dark. As this has enough neutral and pink tones mixed in, it’s super flattering and I quickly understood why all the beauty bloggers and YouTubers loved it so, so, so much. With a drier formula, it’s also easy to create a precise line – but, don’t worry, you can easily fill in your lips entirely with the colour, especially when wearing a balm.
