HAIR & BEAUTY
IS YOUR HAIR NATURALLY STRAIGHT?
No, it’s actually a combination of Type 2C with a little 3A, but I damaged it by constantly using straighteners. During the lockdowns I’ve been growing my hair out – 9 months in and there’s a clear divide between my healthy, thicker, natural hair at the top and the damaged, thinner, duller hair at the bottom. As my natural hair can be quite messy at the top, I do use my straighteners on a very low heat right at the top to smooth it out and use my curling wand to keep the curls together and neat. Even though I do use heat, it’s a case of using it on-and-off for 2-5 minutes every other day, instead of intensely for an hour with a high heat and hairdryer too.
DO YOU WEAR HAIR EXTENSIONS?
No, it’s all my own!
HOW DO YOU SMOOTH OUT YOUR SKIN’S TEXTURE AND COVER REDNESS WITHOUT LOOKING CAKED IN MAKEUP?
You can reference my post here – My Natural, Full-Coverage Foundation Routine – however, it has since changed slightly. On the patch where I suffered severe medical inflammation, the skin is still thinner and acts and feels different to the skin on the rest of my face. I find that embracing a full-coverage method to base makeup has made all the difference. While it’s essential to blend your foundation and concealer in well, there is an argument for not over-blending when covering texture. The creamy nature of products can create a beautiful hydrating and smooth look to the skin which can disappear if you blend too much. Using the Fenty Beauty Kabuki Foundation brush has been a game-changer too – with it’s soft bristles, it effortlessly aids an airbrush finish. Speaking of an airbrush finish, if you need a fail-proof powder for setting textured skin, I’ve found that the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder is the product to use. I now use it every day on my little patch, and then use the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder everywhere else.
