I’ve suffered from chronically dry lips for years – and I know I’m not the only one. Especially in winter with the central heating button regularly being pressed throughout the day, dry lips can sometimes feel as though it’s a part of our genetic makeup that just has to be accepted as “one of those things”. And for a long time, I believed that, until I came across what’s now a small handful of products that are my go-to for a hydration fix.
PATRICK TA MAJOR GLOW SOFTENING LIP MASQUE – £20
If you only ever purchase one product that I’ve recommended here on my blog, it should be the Patrick Ta Softening Lip Masque. With a beautifully soft chocolate scent, this treatment has transformed my lips, and I couldn’t be happier with the effects. I’ve even grown to love the mild minty sensation! I believe I said in my last blogpost, but this has to be one of the best beauty purchases I have ever, ever made.
From once constantly fighting against chaps and soreness, the Softening Lip Masque left my lips super smooth and soft with a stunning shine, all thanks to its emollient ester blend, and gave me lasting hydration within a day. Formulated with skin-healing properties, as well as vegan lanolin to seal in moisture and allow your lips to look plump and healthy, I don’t feel as though I can praise this product enough.
The Masque comes in a beautiful little semi-translucent nude matte tub with a rose-gold lid, and while the treatment lasts for a long time on the lips, you’ll probably want to have a traditional balm on hand which you don’t need to physically dunk into to get the product out when you’re on the go. Hopefully soon Patrick will come out with his very own classic version!
Given the size, upon first impressions I really thought that I’d get through the whole tub within a week of opening. I then quickly realised that you hardly need any product to cover your lips sufficiently. I’m absolutely obsessed with this product and will definitely be repurchasing it again and again.
NIVEA ORIGINAL CARE LIP BALM – £1.99
With all the fancy treatments, masks and sticks out there, everybody wants a good old classic balm that just works as a quick fix when we’re busy. For me, I don’t enjoy balms that are overly thin or oily, but instead prefer thicker and wax-like consistencies, purely because they feel more natural. The Nivea Original Care lip balm is by far my favourite classic balm that I’ve tried over the years, and is what I use during the day when I’m not using the Patrick Ta Softening Lip Masque.
NARS OIL-INFUSED LIP TINTS – £23 EACH
If you love the ‘wet-look’, this gloss will be right up your street. Without being sparkly, this smooth and lightweight, non-sticky, non-gloopy, non-greasy gloss will instantly give your lips a high shine effect with a minimal tint of colour. Formulated with vitamin A and E to deliver a nourishing feel, its designed to help protect your lips against environmental stresses. With the inclusion an active antioxidant ingredient, namely Pomegranate Extract, the Oil-Infused Lip Tints give lasting hydration. Reef is my favourite shade and is on-hand at all times.
NARS AFTERGLOW LIP BALMS – £23 EACH
The NARS Afterglow Lip Balms have to be one of my all-time favourite products. Providing instant hydration, these tinted balms can be worn both sheerly and with high colour intensity. Combined with the Monoï Hydrating Complex and a blend of antioxidant ingredients, these balms not only give your lips a beautiful shine and wash of colour, but also a protective formulation to maintain suppleness and comfort.
With a beautiful range of both everyday colours and statement shades, your lips are instantly given a cushioning look and feel, and I get complimented every time I wear them. What’s more – there’s even a clear shade if you’re wanting to invest in giving yourself a little treat.
My favourite shades are Fast Lane, a pinky mauve, Orgasm, a peachy pink, Dolce Vita, a rosy peach nude, and Turbo, a cherry red.
FENTY BEAUTY GLOSS BOMB CREAMS – £17 EACH
Albeit the newest addition to my lip collection, the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Creams standout amongst the crowd. While there’s always a time and place for highly pigmented glosses that require a bit of time and effort to apply, I was over the moon to find out that Rihanna has launched a beautiful collection of lightweight, shimmer-free and effortless-to-apply glosses that provide a stunning wash of colour. Without stickiness, these glosses are brilliant for carrying around with you and lend themselves to be reapplied with ease.
Formulated with nourishing Vitamin A, these vegan, lightly peach-vanilla scented glosses are a natural lovers dream and leave your lips with a beautiful, healthy shine and comfortable feel.
My favourite shades for everyday wear are Fenty Glow, a pinky peach nude, and Mauve Wives, a pinky cool-toned mauve.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY COLLAGEN LIP BATH – £25 EACH
If you’re after a more tacky formula which still gives a sheer wash of colour, the Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath may be the answer. With a stronger minty, plumping sensation than that found within the milder-feeling Patrick Ta Softening Lip Masque, this more traditional-style gloss is formulated with peptides, marine collagen, coconut oil, marula oil, peppermint oil and even cooling organic menthol crystals to makes your lips look plump and feel moisturised. Personally, even though the minty sensation is strong and lasts for a while, I don’t notice the “plumping effect” – although, it may just be minimal!
While fairly thick and sticky upon application, the texture softens five minutes or so later – this is likely due to the product having some time to warm up now that it’s on your lips. The Collagen Lip Bath’s lasting power is fantastic, holding on for a number of hours when not eating or drinking. The product continues to settle during this time, eventually feeling like a tacky, hydrating balm. In all honesty, they’re not my first pick out of the bunch mentioned today – I wear them when I’m in the mood for a tackier texture, but, generally speaking, I prefer lighter consistencies. In saying that though, when I do use them, I enjoy it!
Currently, the Collagen Lip Bath comes in Walk Of No Shame, a sheer berry, Pillow Talk, a sheer nude-pink, Rosy Glow, a rosy pink, Peachy Plump, a peach, and Refresh Rose, a clear gloss.
Lip care is very personal, and what you’ll like and dislike will completely depend on your individual set of preferences. I really hope that I’ve been able to guide you in the right direction, or even open your eyes to a product you didn’t know about before.
